DLR Group welcomes experiential graphic designer Zach Kotel to the firm. He is a talented and versatile designer with nearly 10 years experience in wayfinding + signage packages, brand development campaigns, and experiential graphics projects for a variety of client types. Working from the firm’s Denver location, Kotel will lead project teams in art direction, design, and project management to elevate a client’s brand.
He uses experiential graphic design to help people navigate spaces, connect with products and businesses, or to create moments of joy in the physical environment. Kotel credits his ability to naturally connect with design teams and stakeholders as the foundation for delivering successful experiential design solutions for clients.
“Zach has a deep and accomplished body of work in the field of experiential graphic design and brand development,” said DLR Group Principal Adam Wells, who leads the firm’s experience graphic design team. “He has been, and continues to be, a leader in the SEGD community, which positions him to be at the forefront of the industry for years to come.”
“All design is inherently experiential and the best design - whether it be for a logo, website, building, product, or wayfinding system - takes into account and maximizes the user’s experience. Experiential graphic design is collaborative and multidisciplinary and when it is done well, it can truly blend branding, placemaking, and many other disciplines to communicate and evoke an emotional response,” said Kotel.
Kotel is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA), Colorado chapter, and Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD). He is currently serving as SEGD Denver Chapter Chair and was named the SEGD Chapter Chair Award Winner in 2020, an honor that recognizes outstanding volunteer efforts contributing to the direction, growth, strength and excellence of SEGD Chapters both locally and throughout the organization.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in Studio Art, with an emphasis in painting and French Literature. Fluent in French, Kotel also studied at the Institut Catholique de Paris and L’Académie de la Croix-Nivert in Paris. An accomplished artist, his work has been featured in Art Students League of Denver exhibitions and is displayed in the permanent print collection at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in Wuhan, China.
