Dermot MacCormack, Designer, Educator, Writer, Associate Professor at the Temple University Tyler School of Art

Dermot MacCormack worked in various leading design studios both in Ireland and the US before joining Temple University in 1997 as an assistant professor in the Graphic & Interactive Design Department at Tyler School of Art. His design work has appeared in many prestigious design publications both nationally and internationally.

Dermot MacCormack's work has appeared in Communications Arts Magazine, Graphis Posters Annual, How Magazine, Print Magazine, Applied Arts, Horizon Interactive, to name a few. His work has been exhibited in the Golden Bee in Moscow, The Fourth Bloc in the Ukraine and various national juried exhibitions in Baton Rouge and Philadelphia. His teaching pedagogy and student’s work has been published in the book “Design School Confidential”, by Stephen Heller (one of the country’s leading design critics on design) and also in the forthcoming “Type Rules! The designer’s guide to professional typography” by Ilene Strizver, a leading critic on typography.

One of Dermot MacCormack's interactive projects, an interactive map for Hortulus Gardens, was featured both in “Visual Language for Designers” by Connie Malamed and “New Big Book of Layouts” by Joel Anderson. His work was also included in the recent book “Graphic Design Solutions” by Robin Landa, a prestigious book on the fundamentals of graphic design. He has also begun creating interactive digital installations, one of which was featured in the Annual Exhibition of Digital Work, a juried show held in the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, curated by Christiane Paul, Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
