Design firm Cooper Carry announced today the appointment of Paul Bowman as Director of Experiential Graphic Design, a discipline that involves designing visuals to intuitively guide users through the built environment. First joining the firm in 2001 before transitioning into a contract position, Bowman has returned to lead Cooper Carry’s Experiential Graphic Design team with a focus on expanding into new sectors and enhancing established partnerships.

In his role, Bowman is charged with highlighting the wide-ranging capabilities of the Experiential Graphic Design team. This includes working alongside Cooper Carry’s Branding Studio to ensure the experiential design strategy aligns with the project’s brand, as well as collaborating with Cooper Carry’s architects, interior designers, landscape architects and urban designers to create a cohesive environmental experience for users. He will also pursue business development opportunities to grow the firm’s experiential graphic design portfolio.

“I am passionate about the role experiential graphics play in today’s transformation economy, which theorizes that people are looking for more than just great experiences; they want deep, meaningful connections to the places and businesses they frequent,” said Bowman. “I strive for exceptional graphic design that reflects the essence of a company’s brand or a place’s culture and intuitively guides people through the built environment. My work at Cooper Carry is all about supporting a variety of studios across the firm’s mixed-use ecosystem to deliver authentic designs that follow that transformation economy philosophy and align with the goals of the project. I’m excited to step into this new role and continue this collaborative work, as well as identify new avenues for growth and innovation.”

Leveraging his background in industrial design, as well as his experience designing attractions for global theme parks, Bowman brings a holistic perspective to experiential graphic design. He is well-versed in all stages of concept development and project management, and he finds creative solutions to define a project’s brand identity, improve wayfinding and enhance placemaking to achieve client goals.

His work can be seen in several high-profile developments across the southeast, including State Farm’s massive Park Center campus in Atlanta’s Central Perimeter, where he crafted an experience that highlighted corporate and regional values, and Capitol View, a mixed-use development in Nashville where he designed a three-dimensional, interactive art installation that has become a draw for locals and visitors alike. Most recently, Bowman was involved in executing the wayfinding strategy at Midtown Union, a mixed-use complex comprising office, hotel, multifamily and retail and is currently under construction in Atlanta.

After graduating from Leadership Buckhead in 2010, Bowman founded Design Samaritan, an organization focused on refurbishing furniture that would otherwise be discarded into unique home furnishings. Bowman has partnered with Verde Home furniture store in Atlanta to sell the pieces and proceeds from each purchase are used to donate home goods to local families transitioning out of homelessness and into homes of their own.

Paul is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in 1999.

“Paul brings enterprising creativity, a passion for cultivating connections, and an eye for compelling design to our firm  —  all attributes of a sharp, forward-thinking leader,” said Kyle Reis, president and CEO of Cooper Carry. “In our ever-evolving design industry, Paul has his finger on the pulse of what’s new and next, as well as a demonstrated history of success in this field. He will undoubtedly be the engine that drives us into the next phase of growth for the Experiential Graphic Design team.”
