Dr. Christopher Poe is an Assistant Director at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. In his current position, he is leading intelligent transportation system (ITS), transportation operations, connected transportation, and toll road research and implementation projects. Dr. Poe also serves as the Head of the Research and Implementation Division at TTI where he oversees 70 transportation researchers on a variety of projects in the TTI Dallas/Fort Worth, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio offices. Dr. Poe has an extensive background in transportation management, traffic operations, intelligent transportation systems, and high-occupancy vehicle lanes.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Poe spent six years in the private sector leading intelligent transportation system and traffic engineering projects in the Central U.S. Region, including 4 years working on site at DFW International Airport. Dr. Poe served as the airport’s project manager and construction manager for a $20 million sign replacement project to completely update and improve the static guide signing at DFW airport. The project updated roadway, garage, and terminal signs. The project also applied the latest airport and roadway signing practices and criteria. The design incorporated complex wayfinding requirements, non-traditional geometric conditions, and the latest prismatic sheeting materials to achieve the highest quality signing system.
Dr. Poe received his bachelor’s (’86) and master’s (’87) degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and his Ph.D. (‘99) from the Pennsylvania State University. He has also taught university courses on transportation engineering at The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Poe is a licensed engineer in the State of Texas.
