SEGD Vancouver Chapter Event: Brand + Architecture Tour

Please join members of the Vancouver design community for a “behind the scenes” guided tour of the new Adler University downtown Vancouver campus. Experience the process and results of integrating architecture, interior design and communication design to create a brand-expressive higher educational environment. Susan Mavor and Brian Wakelin, Principals of PUBLIC: Architecture + Communication will share stories from the design trenches in creating a new campus for this private institution focussed on Masters' programs in social psychology.

Meet in the Seymour Street lobby level and tour the five floors of the school to hear about creating exterior campus presence within an interior design project. Find out about the challenges of making significant architectural moves in a building where they're already pouring concrete. Comment on the use of environmental graphic design to express mission, vision and values.

Wouldn’t it be great if all chandeliers could descend from the ceiling, at the push of a button, in order to change a light bulb? Yes, it would, and in the case of the Chan Centre for Performing Arts, it is not just a chandelier but also an acoustic canopy, which can be customized and adjusted to bring musical performances to complete perfection.

That is only one small thing we learned during the Open Buildings tour at the University of British Columbia, part of Vancouver Design Week 2014. More than 30 people of all ages and professions attended the morning and afternoon tours which highlighted six outstanding architecture and EGD points of interest. Professionals, designers and project managers met at each site, and offered an insight into processes, challenges and the “behind the scenes” of each project.

Our day started with coffee and muffins in the sun, and took off to explore the Chemistry Building bike shelter, Buchanan courtyard and Chan Centre for Performing Arts. After a lunch break in the sun, we met again at the UBC Pharmacuitical Building, and continued to the UBC Tennis Centre and Beaty Biodiversity Museum. See more photos from this amazing day-long event on our facebook page!

Night photo of Vancouver for the Vancouver SEGD Chapter Welcome

Vancouver Chapter Chairs Daniela Pilossof and Danielle Bauer welcome you to the new SEGD website!

We’re proud to be members of one of the first SEGD Chapters in Canada and look forward to working closely with members and the community to build a stronger chapter and promote a vibrant EGD industry throughout the Lower Mainland.

In 2014 we will be working to champion the region-specific needs and interests of our members. In doing so our aim is to improve designer and vendor connections, engage the thriving student population, facilitate a talent pool for local member organizations, and continue to build diverse membership.

Check back soon for the announcement of a series of events in 2014!

SEGD is the smallest, friendliest, most open design association. Join and find out what community really means!.
