2019 Surface Imaging Symposium

What is Surface Imaging?

Surface Imaging utilizes new digital imaging technologies to print on most any surface imaginable: This emerging discipline exists at the intersection of art, design, engineering, and business, to create scalable, customized physical forms from the most miniature, high-res product prototypes, to the most massive architectural installations, and everything in-between.

Join us for a unique symposium hosted by Philadelphia-based Jefferson University Surface Imaging and its Masters of Science in Surface Imaging Program (MSSI).

For more information view the Symposium Landing Page.

Join us for an evening with Polish-American designer, SEGD Fellow and author, Jan Lorenc. Jan will take us on a journey from his early life in rural Poland to acclaimed designer, leading a thriving team of architects, graphic designers, sculptors, interior designers, and industrial designers in his Atlanta design firm, Lorenc+Yoo Design. The firm is responsible for award-winning museum spaces, trade show exhibits, sculptures, wayfinding and placemaking for renowned clients including Delta, the Mayo Clinic, Sony, Hyatt, Samsung, UPS, and many others.

Lorenc immigrated with his parents to the United States from rural Poland at age eight. He earned degrees in industrial design and visual design from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a professor Jan has taught at the renowned Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta and has been an adviser to the School of Design at Georgia Tech. He is a frequent lecturer in the United States, China and Korea. Jan is also co-author of the definitive museum and exhibit design textbook — “What Is Exhibition Design?” — which has been translated and published in Chinese, Russian, Korean, and his native tongue Polish.

In 2017, Jan was named SEGD Fellow, sharing the organization's highest honor with the likes of Paula Scher, Massimo Vignelli, Lance Wyman, Deborah Sussman, Robert Venturi, Ivan Chermayeff, and David Gibson, among others.

It's hard to believe summer is nearing its end. It was such a great summer here in Philly, especially since we got to host all of our colleagues for the Wayfinding and Placemaking event. We had a great night at Cherry Street Pier enjoying the tastes of Philly and taking in the City's waterfront.

We hope you all enjoyed your visit and the fireworks as much as we enjoyed having you.

Join us after the first day of the conference to experience Philly and connect with the SEGD community at the Philadelphia Chapter Mixer sponsored by Walton!

Event Venue:

Cherry Street Pier

121 N. Christopher Columbus Boulevard

Register here for the mixer and reserve your complimentary drink ticket. Come enjoy local bites and waterfront views.

We hope to see you all there!
