SEGD Denver Chapter - Sponsored by archetype

Denver, CO Blog

We love hands-on workshops, walking tours, and hearing from great speakers, but sometimes it's great to just get together and socialize!  At the end of July, SEGD Denver hosted a Summer Social on the rooftop of The Metlo, a fantastic venue on Broadway. Designers, fabricators and other industry professionals had the opportunity to mix and mingle, meet new faces, and connect with old friends.  We had a great turnout with about 50 attendees from across the area.

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the evening with us!  We have some amazing events coming up in the next month so stay tuned!

*A special thanks to Karl Uschold for snapping some excellent pictures of the evening.  Check out his work at

In May, SEGD Denver invited Historic Denver and Denver Community & Development Landmark Preservation to host a walking tour of Downtown Denver.  Starting at Union Station, Historic Denver led us on an exploration of warehouse row, historic hotels, and current development.  We learned about the story of Denver's founding, the arrival and impact of the railroad, the growth around Union Station, and the neighborhood's transformation.

Along the way, Denver Community & Development Landmark Preservation provided fascinating details about the graphics and signage that define the Historic Downtown District.  From ghost signs to logos and branding for new businesses, we learned how they're making strides to protect the history of downtown while maintaining a truly unique aesthetic for years to come.

After the tour, the group gathered for a happy hour at Woodie Fisher, one of the first fire stations in Denver that has been recently restored as an iconic kitchen and bar. The design of the space reflects the history of the building through thoughtful interior design, branding, and signage. Our friends at ADCON Signs, the fabricators behind the Woodie Fisher signage, graciously sponsored this happy hour.

SEGD Denver tours Dairy Block with Nine Dot Arts

In April SEGD Denver toured Downtown Denver's newest micro-district, Dairy Block with our friends at local art-planning firm Nine Dot Arts to learn about how art can be used as placemaking. Expert curator Chris Roth led us throughout the awesome, mixed-use project and told us about the stories of each piece of art and what it’s like to work with businesses to curate one-of-a-kind art collections to help define brands and places. The tour was super fun with a great, very engaged audience and a unique perspective on the built environment.

If you couldn't make it to this event, our chapter will be hosting several other events this year, as well as attending the national conference in Austin. Sign up for our mailing list, become a member and attend an event to stay in touch with the EGD community in Denver and Colorado,
