Charlotte Chapter

Charlotte, NC Blog

Let's give back to the community we call “home” while having fun and building friendships along the way!

SEGD Charlotte has been invited by the City of Charlotte - Urban Planning Department to make suggestions on how to activate Polk Park (105 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202) and bring energy back to this central location in our city's core.

The City has outlined their objectives in the attached Polk Park 1 Page Summary and LandDesign has developed a 3-stage plan (attached) for reviving the park. SEGD Charlotte would like to recommend a dash of Experiential Graphics to make the planned improvements more vibrant and engaging.

Come to this event and let's have fun and brainstorm together over refreshments and cheer.

After this workshop, we would like to offer a few suggestions to the City of Charlotte along with creative ideas on how these could be implemented.

300 S. Tryon SEGD Tour

We were fortunate to have private tours of both the new 300 S. Tryon tower and the new Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel on March 16th!  These two properties are neighbors on the same block and are the most talked about projects in Charlotte.  The tours were led by the project architects (LS3P and Cooper Carry), the Kimpton graphic designer (Scholberg Design) and the signage and graphics provider for both projects (Trademark Visual).

We had 16 attendees and advertised the event using MailChimp, Eventbrite, LinkedIn and our chapter page.  Attendees were a mix of graphic designers, architects and fabricators.

Trademark Visual sponsored the event and provided drinks for the group after the tour at the Kimpton's new rooftop bar, Merchant + Trade.

The tour guides / speakers were contacted by Trademark Visual and agreed to join us from Atlanta and Charlotte.  The GM of the Kimpton helped out with special rates for the event and our chapter took care of the Atlanta architect and designer's hotel rooms for the night to make the trip a little easier on them.  We really appreciate everyone's participation / willingness to help make this event a success!

We were able to see everything from the parking deck graphics to the main lobby, restaurants, office floors and hotel conference areas and hear directly from their designers what influenced them, how they dealt with any setbacks and what they thought of the finished product!

We were lucky to have perfect Carolina spring weather so finishing up on the rooftop was the cherry on top of a fantastic event!
