Boston Chapter

Boston, MA Blog

As part of Boston Design Week:

Join SEGD (Society of Experiential Graphic Design) Boston Chapter for a sneak preview tour of Autodesk’s advanced workshop for research and prototyping digital fabrication methods and construction automation for the AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) industry. This workshop is called the BUILD Space, for Building Innovation Learning and Design, and will support researchers in residence from industry, practice and academia as well as community education and "making". The BUILD Space will officially open this spring.
The tour will highlight the BUILD Space’s areas for large project assembly and design robotics, large CNC equipment of various kinds, areas for hot metal, glass and ceramic work, and for composites and finishing.
As part of The Society of Experiential Graphic Design’s mission to educate, connect, and inspire our global community we invite you to learn how this new maker space will provide a public forum for innovation right here in the Innovation District of Boston.

Free for SEGD Members, $15 for guests.

Lawn on D tour and Spring Social

Come join SEGD Boston Chapter and the Sasaki Associates Design Team in our Spring Social event featuring South Boston’s hottest new urban district, the Lawn on D. Anchored by the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC), the space occupies a critical mid-point between South Boston, the Innovation District and Liberty Wharf, and the Fort Point and Channel Center neighborhoods. This new district aspires to be interactive, flexible, technologically advanced, inspired by art and events, and inclusive of many constituents (residents, workers, conventioneers, tourists). The Lawn on D demonstrates and pilots these ambitions, testing spatial configurations and programming that will eventually be deployed to a future event space that will become the heart and focus of the new district along D Street.

Composed of two parts—the plaza and the lawn—The Lawn on D is a hub of activity for community events. The Plaza's paths blaze trails from D Street to the side entrance of the BCEC; its signature lights describe a right-sized space for gatherings; and its bright, playful, movable furniture invites visitors to make the space their own. The lawn at The Lawn on D—sited where 4 feet of urban fill used to block views and preclude access—now provides a gracious forecourt to the BCEC along D Street and hosts a range of shorter-term art installations and projects.

After the presentation Sasaki invites you to continue to “Drink” in neighboring Fort Point for refreshments and further discussion.

Date and time:

5pm – meet and greet

5:30pm sharp – presentation

6:30-7:30pm – refreshments nearby

It's the big event! Illuminus is Boston's first “nuit blanche” — a free nighttime festival of creative innovation featuring large-scale projections and light installations alongside immersive sound, performance, and multimedia experiences that reimagine the city at night. Illuminus will transform Boston's streetscapes into a vibrant urban canvas where regional artists, designers, creative technologists, architects, performers and fabricators converge to showcase their most thoughtful, innovative, and imaginative works. The festival will provoke and inspire, celebrating the creative approaches to art, culture, and community that form the foundation of a thriving and dynamic city.
