Boston Chapter

Boston, MA Blog

Hello, SEGD Boston!

Join us on January 26th, as we welcome 2017 with our first event of the new year! The Society of Arts and Crafts has offered to host our holiday party at their new location at 100 Pier 4 in the Seaport District. The move was an opportunity for this century old organization to re-brand, and recreate itself and step out as an authority in the craft movement.

Sasaki was selected for the interior architecture of the gallery and retail space, as well as the re-brand, and the implementation of the brand in the built environment.  Being in the South Boston Neighborhood, the Society selected its neighbor Design Communications to fabricate and implement signage and brand vehicles. One of which is still in construction and will be being assembled in the shop on the days leading up to the event.

Our event will start with a quick tour of DCL, where we will see the final element in the shop being assembled and readied for installation later this month. Then we will move to the Society of Arts and Crafts space for a quick talk about the project, drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and socialization.

Did someone say "Roadtrip?"

Join the Boston Chapter on an overnight excursion to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA to experience the latest installment of their evening arts program called "Nightscape" -- a light and sound experience by Klip Collective.

The Boston Chapter will be renting a van to drive down on Saturday morning with an early afternoon arrival at the Gardens. We will then have time to wander the Gardens on our own prior to a talk with Klip Collective designers, before the evening opening of Nightscape. We will depart the gardens between 10-11 pm and stay at a local hotel before departing on our return trip to Boston on Sunday the 30th.

We're working with Klip to arrange for a member of the design team to walk us through Nightscape, and talk about the inspiration and technical details of this light and sound experience.

To get a sneak peak of  the exhibit please visit Longwood Gardens website or their YouTube channel.

Transportation to and from Boston, will be provided by van driven by SEGD Chapter Chair, limited to 10.

Hotels will be on our own, we are working on securing a room block at the Farifield Inn and Suites, in Kennett Square.

We encourage our New York, Philly and DC Chapters to join us after Xlab. A limited number of tickets are available through Eventbrite

Hope to see you there
