Atlanta, GA Blog

A wonderful turnout in Atlanta for our first project tour of the year. Distinguished leadership, dedicated sponsors, SEGD ATL members and friends alike shared in this informative tour, which highlighted a wonderful diversity of design, fabrication and installation solutions.

Following the tours, we had plenty of time to take in the ballgame and catch up with old friends and colleagues and form new relationships with industry leaders.

Our tour host for the BatteryType Walk was SEGD President and project designer John Lutz, Partner at Selbert Perkins Design. The tour of SunTrust Parkwas guided by Atlanta Braves Creative Director Insung Kim.

“I was extremely happy to see so many old friends and new at the SEGD Atlanta Chapter’s tour of SunTrust Park and The Battery,” said Lutz. “We’re so thankful that Insung Kim from the Atlanta Braves showed us the inner workings of the Braves new ballpark, featuring lots of great branded environments throughout the space.”

Our generous sponsors were:

Local members of SEGD Atlanta presented "What is SEGD?" to graphic/web design, illustration and interior design students at The Art Institute of Atlanta on April 26. Chapter co-chair Steve Dubberly of SRSSA reached out to SEGD member and AiA design faculty Sue Youngblood to coordinate the event. Steve provided an overview of SEGD and brought EG magazines to give to students. SEGD members and AiA alumni Danny Roberts ('91), Korinna Hirsch ('00) and Lina Talero ('15) shared personal stories of wit and wisdom learned over their varied career paths in the field along with exemplary project images.

Atlanta Chapter Event - Design Conversation with Ken Carbone

MODA and Portfolio Center present Design Conversation with Ken Carbone - True Obsessions : Art, Music and Design and Why They Matter More Everyday

The paintings of Picasso, the opening of Beethoven’s 9th, the Apple iPhone; are among the greatest creative examples of our species behaving beautifully. Art, music and design are dominant cultural drivers that continue to make important and lasting contributions to civilization.
In his presentation, Ken Carbone, Co-Founder of the Carbone Smolan Agency, will reveal how he has juggled these personal obsessions for over five decades to build a rewarding creative career. Including a live guitar performance, he’ll also discuss how art, music and design are becoming more essential in contemporary life as they provide a needed bright spot in an increasingly troubled world.
