Atlanta event - Jan Lorenc Event

What a great night!  Nearly 140 attendees from SEGD Atlanta, AIGA, IIDA, SCAD, GA Tech and many vendors from Atlanta and beyond came out to celebrate the SEGD Fellowship of Jan Lorenc. Jan treated the crowd to an inspiring keynote covering both his unique path in life and his impressive design career!

Atlanta Chapter Chair Steve Dubberly gave a brief introduction to SEGD for students and the many cross disciplines of design that were present. This event presented a great opportunity to Educate, Inform and Inspire SEGD members as well as the larger design community.

Special thanks to Rick Pariani (V.P. Design & Development Davidson Development, Inc) for the warm introduction to Jan and of course our generous sponsors Henry Inc. and DeNyse Signs, without whom this event would not have been possible!

Thanks Atlanta for a great turnout! Stay tuned for our Fall/Winter event...

SEGD Atlanta is honored to present the opportunity to spend an evening with Atlanta design legend and SEGD Fellow, Jan Lorenc at SCAD Show!

From award-winning museum spaces, trade show exhibits, sculptures, wayfinding and placemaking, Jan has an incredibly impressive design resume! And a client list that is equally impressive: Delta, the Mayo Clinic, Sony, Hyatt, Portman, tvs design, Samsung, UPS, and many others.

Holding degrees in industrial design, architecture and visual communication, he and his multi-disciplinary firm have received numerous honors and awards since the founding of Lorenc+Yoo Design in 1978.

This past year Jan was named SEGD Fellow at the 2017 SEGD Conference Experience Miami, sharing this honor with the likes of Massimo Vignelli, Lance Wyman, Deborah Sussman,  Robert Venturi, Ivan Chermayeff, David Gibson, among others.

He is the author of “What Is Exhibition Design?” and serves as a frequent design lecturer and adjunct professor of exhibition design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), as well as at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

4-7pm Volunteer Session

7-9pm Brewery Social (Red Brick)

Certified Finishes - 2333 Defoor Hills Road Northwest, Atlanta, GA 30318

In the design and construction industry, we find ourselves creating a lot of waste from expired or unused materials collected in our finish libraries that inevitably make their way to the landfill.

So we asked why not repurpose, or upcycle, these materials back into our community? Once unwanted materials can have a new life as free-source materials for educators and non-profit associations, or be transformed into works of art by artists and crafters.

IIDA Georgia (International Interior Design Association of Georgia) is hosting the 6th annual ZeroLandfill Atlanta event with Wilsonart. To date, we have helped upcycle more than 209,000 pounds of discontinued architectural and interior design samples.

Help us beat our previous year totals by participating in the 2018 ZeroLandfill Atlanta event!

We'd like to encourage as many SEGD ATL members as possible to come out volunteer on Material Drop off day for ZERO LANDFILL 2018!  This is a great chance to give back to our community and keep tons of discarded sample chips out of our landfills! It's also the perfect opportunity to connect with other local members of IIDA (International Interior Design Association). Each volunteer hour can be self-reported as one USGBC CE hour to help you maintain your LEED GA or AP credentials.

Food will be provided during the Volunteer sessions and as a reward for your hard work, APCO Signs & SEGD ATL will be sponsoring/hosting a beer social just across the street at Red Brick Brewery from 7-9.  All SEGD volunteers are welcome to attend!

Thanks to all who made the Mercedes Benz Tour Event a huge success!

We were treated to the basic tour narration from the stadium staff, but were also able to have our 2 sponsors, IMG and Daktronics, along talk about their portion of the project.

Everything from the world's largest digital Halo screen, to the wayfinding and concession signage. We all had a blast touring Arthur Blank's private suite as well as the Falcons locker room!

The tour culminated in a short walk to a local watering hole for a great social gathering!

Thanks again to the sponsors, SEGD Atlanta members, students and guests for the robust turnout!  35-40 people!
