ScreenprintinWorkshop

About the Event
SEGD Chicago's first event for 2017 will be a maker’s event, where we go old-school and learn how to screen print. The event is being hosted at Spudnik Press, a non-profit community printmaking studio located in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago. For the event, local artist Molly Z has graciously designed and donated two custom art pieces to screenprint onto your very own tote bag (tote will be provided). Join us March 15 to get away from the computer screen and enjoy some hands-on creative time with your colleagues.

Event Details
Spudnik Press, 1821 W Hubbard Street, Chicago, IL
Appetizers, Drinks & Networking at 630 PM
Class Starts Promptly at 700 PM
Tote Bag & Artwork will be provided by SEGD.

About The Artist - Molly Z

She works with designers, architects, museums and schools creating large scale digital illustrations, hand painted murals, and collaborative art making experiences. Van Gogh’s Bedrooms, the landmark exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago, features digital and interactive exhibits that challenge visitors to discover an authentic, human side of Van Gogh’s life and work.

Bluecadet’s animators, designers, and developers worked collaboratively with the Art Institute's curatorial, conservation, digital experience teams to create experiences that immerse visitors in Van Gogh’s world – both physical and emotional. Staff of both teams will be giving SEGD an exclusive tour of the exhibit they helped bring to life.

After we experience the exhibition, Michael Neault, the Chicago Institute of Art’s Director of Digital Experience; Josh Goldblum, CEO and Founding Partner of Bluecadet; and Elizabeth Russell, Bluecadet’s producer for the project will give presentations on the collaborative efforts to bring the exhibits to life, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the design process.

See more of the exhibit and interactives on Bluecadet's website.

We had a great turnout for Tuesday's event at 1871, featuring a presentation on ADA requirements and photopolymer signage by Nova Polymers.

A big Thank You to our members from Gensler for giving tours of 1871's co-working, tech incubator space in the Merchandise Mart.  If you missed it, check out more from Gensler and 1871.

Bob Greenberger and Mike Santos from Nova Polymers are great resources for our industry regarding ADA-compliant signage.  Check out Nova Polymer's resources.

Want to see more photos of the event?  Here's a slideshow.  Photos by CloudSpotter.

Please join us for an evening of wine, cheese and ADA tactile code signage! Hosted by Nova Polymers, this informative session will cover the basics of code signs, how to specify tactile for your signage projects and how Nova Polymers is pushing the envelope with custom ADA signage.  The program is IDCEC and AIA approved.

Food and refreshments will be provided, as well as a tour of the event location 1871 (designed by Gensler).

Join us for the first SEGD Chicago Breakfast Roundtable, offering EGD professionals an opportunity to engage in conversation on challenges, opportunities and best practices in our industry.

This month's topic:

“Yikes WHO did that?” Clarity, Conviction and CCO’s - (Critical Change Orders that is).

Sharon Brooks of South Water Signs (An experienced SEGD and industry partner with a BFA in Graphic Design) will share her expertise on the questions we should be asking during the project process: What do the specs say? Re-submit the submittals? And you’re delivering, when?

Hosted at the offices of Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, located in the historic Boyce Building in the vibrant River North neighborhood.

Come for breakfast, coffee, and a great learning opportunity!
