Happy Spring! I hope everyone is having a productive season, feeling inspired every bit of the way. From talking to members over the last few months, it appears that people are busier than ever and that’s a great thing.
We recently held our March board meeting at the RTKL offices in downtown Los Angeles, where we met our fantastic hosts, the EGD team. The meeting was designed to review and approve several planning issues for 2015, including our strategic plan presented by CEO Clive Roux.
We also focused on three important topics for the continued development of SEGD, titled “The Future of SEGD/XGD.” This included 1) The need to make SEGD a vital tool in our lives both professionally and personally, 2) how can we improve our relationships with our sponsors and partners with the addition of some new tools on segd.org and, 3) where we can take the growth and development of our local chapters with a focus on the newer generation of designers and industry people. On the last point, I want to extend a warm welcome to George Lim,who joins us this year as the Chapter Chair Liaison to the board.
The SEGD team has been fast at work producing events for the summer, including our 2015 SEGD Conference: Experience ChicagoJune 4-6. It's shaping up to be an amazing mix of inspirational, fun and enriching programs; great networking time; and wonderful opportunities to get out of the hotel and experience a great city. Please don't miss the opportunity to meet with your EGD/XGD community, reacquaint yourself with old friends and make new ones!
In addition, I hope you can catch one of our summer programs, including the Xplorer Foundations Digital Camps coming to Philadelphia July 23and Seattle August 6.These workshops will be a great chance for those of you who need a primer in digital or for a brush-up on your digital installation design skills.
In other news, we lost a dear colleague, Moira Gemmill, who brought so much joy and intellect to the board over the last few years. She will be greatly missed.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all in the Windy City in a few weeks. (If you haven’t registered already, sign up today!) If you’re like me, you’ll have a blast connecting with old friends, meeting new ones and re-awakening thatpassion that brings us all together!
As always, please drop me or Clive a note if you have any thoughts or just want to say hi.
