We measure, constantly, how we are doing and discuss it at every board meeting. SEGD even has its own dashboard, customized to monitor the factors that are making the top-line results possible.
Some might even say we are quite fanatical about understanding the underlying drivers of our membership value creation and engagement with the community—and they would be right!
On the outside, we are the warmest, friendliest, most helpful design organization you can belong to. On the inside, we are quite process-oriented: constantly innovating, pushing ourselves to do better with tiny resources and benchmarking ourselves against organizations more than ten times our size. Measuring keeps us honest and grounded. I don't know another association quite as focused on ensuring they deliver value for their members.
That restless energy and accountability keeps us moving forward (often slower than we would like), remaining constantly hungry and trying to do better—as we know we always can.
WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS TELLING US?
DID YOU KNOW? SEGD membership is up 50% versus five years ago and still showing a strong growth trend—possibly even setting another new record high this year.
As the experiential graphic design profession grows, experience designers who work in the built environment are joining SEGD for access to this in-demand community.
DID YOU KNOW? SEGD is no longer the smallest design association by number of chapters.
The number of SEGD Chapters has almost doubled since 2013. Welcome Raleigh, our latest chapter approved this week! And there are more to come in 2017.
DID YOU KNOW? SEGD events are growing exponentially.
The SEGD Wayfinding eventin Boston in August grew by more than 50% as compared to last year. The 2017 Branded Environmentsevent also grew by more than 50% this year! These events delivered some amazing presentations, which we have added to the SEGD Talks library.
DID YOU KNOW? SEGD Talks, the recordings of our speakers from SEGD events, have been viewed over 85,000 times.
With over 220 videos available to members (free when logged in to the website), this section has become a vital learning resource in a busy new normal for the profession.
DID YOU KNOW? SEGD will deliver more than 4 million page views this year—more per quarter in 2017 than the whole of 2013.
The traffic to SEGD.org continues to grow more than 20% this year. It pays to understand how the web works; then we search optimize and publish our content to meet the new pull criteria of digital media!
There is a lot of good news about SEGD.org. Here are a few more things you should be aware of:
DID YOU KNOW? More than 380,000 unique visitors will come to see what you—the members—have been working on.
While they are on SEGD.org, they will read about exhibition design, wayfinding and placemaking and understand what experiential graphic design is. They will look at members bios and search for firms to work with in the Firms index. They will look up designers in the Member Directory in the SEGD Toolbox and use the Project Gallery to do the research to create a new Pinterest board for a new project.
DID YOU KNOW? Roughly 12,000–18,000 visitors are potential clients.
We have software that shows us this on the back-end. SEGD.org has become more than just a great content portal for the profession; it is also an incredible platform to market your services and show off your work.
DID YOU KNOW? SEGD.org will refer more than 80,000 visitors to your websites and LinkedIn profiles this year.
SEGD.org has become a strong source of interested traffic for the firms in the experiential graphic design profession. Think of SEGD.org as a search magnet drawing in people browsing the internet and then acting as a funnel, channeling them out to your websites on the other side. One in four visitors are leaving SEGD.org for one of our members' web sites! That should help you get a sense of the web machine we have been building for the profession over the past few years.
DID YOU KNOW? Joining SEGD provides over $3,000 worth of digital benefitsper member, per year.
No kidding! All you have to do is take advantage of them—anytime, anywhere.
Xlabwill take place in New York City, Nov. 2–3. If you want to keep up with the changes in experiential graphic design, it is really important to get to SEGD events. Xlab is one that you can't afford to miss.
For the past six years, Xlab has focused on highlighting the new digital technologies coming to maturity that will enable experiential graphic designers to solve more users problems (more effectively) in the built environment. Take a look at the Technology Roadmap for Experiential Graphic Designcompiled from the Gartner Group's technology implementation timeframe research. But Xlab's focus has shifted this year.
This year's event is focused on practice. Leaders in the profession will present how digital technologies have disrupted and enhanced their practices. There will also be talks about built projects like this year's SEGD Global Design Award Best in Show winner, featuring Valentin Spiess, who has already integrated some of these digital technologies seamlessly into the environment—the mark of excellence in experiential graphic design work. You will be amazed at how innovative some firms have become with digital technologies.
DID YOU KNOW? If you have never been an SEGD Member (we're sorry!), you can celebrate SEGD's successes and strong growth with a special 50% off membership offer.
We know that if you experience SEGD, you will understand why we are growing so fast. We also know that members who attend events understand how warm and friendly the community is, so make sure to sign up for Xlab and find out what all the buzz is about.
See you all at Xlab in a few weeks!
