Alissa Cook is an aspiring Environmental Graphic Designer who loves the process of page to prototype.
My name is Alissa Cook and I am a third year student at Miami University in Oxford, OH. I am studying graphic design, architecture, and interactive media, housed in the College of Creative Arts. I really enjoy environmental and experiential graphic design. I have always been interested in the way that the public interacts with products and spaces.
This interests derives from my twelve years of involvement in Destination Imagination (DI). DI is an educational program focused on promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) techniques to generate creative solutions to wicked problems. I have designed and constructed award-winning scenery and props for my teams' presentations at local, state and international competitions. Since graduating high school, I have volunteered over 55 hours within the program and served as an appraiser at each level.
In my collegiate career, I have intentionally taken courses to explore topics of interior space, 3D modeling, entrepreneurship, and communication design. My internship at JUMPER Threads, a Cincinnati-based startup, gave me hands on experience in a multitude of design disciplines. I worked on photo editing, product design and development, and executing a crowdfunding campaign.
Keeping a lighter, but intentional, workload is important to me as I am working on finding the right type of design work for my style. I hope to spend some time in a larger city in the next several years and develop my design skills in a high-intensity, profession setting. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading and traveling.
