Alex Wood, Wayfinding Director, started working life on the shop floor of one of the UK’s leading sign companies, Wood and Wood, learning how signs are made. She eventually became their Commercial Director responsible for implementing sign schemes for many clients including Canary Wharf and the Royal Parks. Alex then decided to set up a design company specifically to work independently with clients to help create, design and implement successful wayfinding, sign design and information graphic solutions.
A founding partner of Holmes Wood, Alex Wood has worked with many of the leading visitor attractions in the UK including The National Gallery, the V&A Museum, Tate, Laban, Albert Dock, the Natural History Museum, the Tower of London and the Royal Opera House. Other clients include Virgin Atlantic, the University of Westminster, Oxford University and Liverpool Waterfront. Her most recent projects include a scheme for ExCeL London (the second biggest venue for the 2012 Olympics) and producing design solutions for Porto Montenegro, a new town and marina to compete with Monte Carlo.
Alex is a member of the Sign Design Society in the UK and a Board Member of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design in the USA. She judged the SEGD Global Design Awards in 2007 and chaired the 2010 and 2012 SEGD Symposia at the V&A.
