Going to be in New York for Xlab 2016, and want to some extra-curricular exploration? Here are 8 nearby and fun distractions!

Breakfast | Donut Pub, 203 W 14th St, (212) 929-0126 | They've been serving breakfast treats like old fashioned, filled donuts, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, muffins, croissants and coffee since 1964. Ask for a s'mores cronut and a sugar crash may be in your delicious future.

Lunch | Chelsea Market, 75 9th Ave, (212) 652-2110 | Pick your poison or Poisson at this market filled with 55 vendors, from chocolatiers to wine bars to sit down restaurants. The prices vary from inexpensive to pricey at the various vendors, and the reviews on Yelp reinforce this Chelsea staple's reputation.

Dinner | Legend, 88 7th Ave, (212) 929-1778 | Legend is all about Sichuan-Chinese, and Asian-Fusion Cuisine and conveniently has a full bar as well as online take-away ordering, yet it's a nice sit-down establishment. Feeling more adventurous? Maybe try the pickled peppers with frogs.

Drink | Sid Gold's Request Room, 165 W 26th St, (212) 229-1948 | The website describes it best: "An evening at Sid Gold’s is like going to a house party and the host has a baby grand in his living room. Unlike traditional piano bars the music leans more toward  pop, rock, soul and even some punk (yes you can play punk on piano). Guests are encouraged to request songs, take the mic and lead the crowd in a sing-a-long of their favorite tunes."

Show | Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, 307 W 26th St, (212) 366-9176 | Do you love comedy and are you low on funds? If so, forget Broadway—UCB is the place to go for a show in New York. Entrance to most shows is $5 and you might just see the next comedy stars before they're famous!

Browse | Printed Matter, 231 11th Ave, (212) 925-0325 | It's a non-profit artist's bookstore with an impressive catalog. They have an open submission process, so you might consider selling your book right there in Chelsea! Also hosts an exhibition space.

Shop | ODD. NYC, 164 Ludlow St, (212) 777-0990 | Take a look at some impossibly hip clothing, accessories and home goods.

Culture | Gagosian Gallery, 522 W 21st St, (212) 741-1717 | Established in 1980, Gagosian Gallery is a great place to take in some artwork. On display now is “Jumping Over My Shadow,” an exhibition of new paintings, drawings, and monumental sculpture by Georg Baselitz.
