Awards Program to Honor Design that Connects People to Place
WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 30, 2016) – The 2017 SEGD Global Design Awards, the only international awards program focused on user experiences in the built environment, will officially open for entries on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016.
Since 1987, the SEGD Global Design Awards have set the standard of excellence for environmental graphic design and experiential graphic design, honoring design work that connects people to place by providing direction, content and compelling experiences in public spaces.
The SEGD Global Design Awards page is also an extremely efficient way for designers, firms and fabricators to promote their best work and build their reputation among the community and clients. Over the last three years, traffic to the awards gallery has increased by more than 200 percent, resulting in over 120,000 visitors—with more than 10 percent of those visitors being potential clients. Individual awards routinely receive thousands of views annually.
"There is absolutely no better way to promote exceptional Experiential Graphic Design than entering the SEGD Global Design Awards. It has the proud reputation of being the most rigorously judged design awards," says Clive Roux, CEO of SEGD.
The seven entry categories reflect the core practice areas of Experiential Graphic Design:
- Digital Experience Content
- Interactive Experience
- Placemaking and Identity
- Public Installation
Honor and Merit design award winners will be selected from submissions in each of the seven categories. The jurors will also choose a Best of Show Award from the top entries. Examples of the seven categories and winning projects in each are available in the extensive SEGD Global Design Awards archive gallery.
SEGD Global Design Awards jurors evaluate submissions on the criteria of connecting people to place, creating a memorable user experience and solving the client's objective or design challenge. The jury is composed of highly respected practitioners, from around the world who represent a range of design disciplines.
SEGD Global Design Awards Best in Show awards in 2015 and 2016 went to the event graphics for the Platform Summit tech conference, and an exhibition on information design in Latvia called INFORMATION, respectively. Past winning projects have ranged from design research initiatives to media-rich interactive installations, complex wayfinding systems, retail and interior design, museum exhibitions, branded environments, architectural signage and contemplative public art.
Winners will be honored during the 2017 SEGD Conference June 8-10 in Miami, as well as on www.SEGD.org and in SEGD’s annual design awards publication and other media outlets. Submission guidelines are available for download on the 2017 SEGD Global Design Awards page.
The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2017, via SEGD’s online design awards entry system. Submissions will be accepted with late fees through Feb. 14, 2017.
