2015 SEGD Conference: Possibilities

Participants at the 2015 SEGD Conference in Chicago last week focused on possibilities—from data science and quantitative research to new digital technologies, new materials, and new collaborations that will impact XGD practice in the coming years.

This is really the event that I count on for getting inspired and rejuvenated for the year,” says Edmund Li, Reich + Petch.  “It’s been a great conference.”

Close to 600 participants gathered at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel & Towers and explored the city known for urban and design innovation. From educational sessions to social events and project tours, “We really got a great taste of a great design city,” says Despina Macrisof dotdash (Melbourne), a conference speaker.

“The energy was fantastic,” says Joe LawtonSEGD Chicago Chapter Co-Chair and conference organizer. The conference broke records for its number of students (54) and young designers in attendance.

“It’s an amazing experience for us to be here and get to meet all these people that we would never get to meet otherwise, not to mention everything I’ve been learning from fabricators and from the sessions,” said Jordan Sowecke, a University of Cincinnati/DAAP student attending her first conference.

Participants enjoyed the inspiring setting and the company of colleagues and partners from around the world and from all disciplines of design and making. Educational sessions NEXPO, social networking events, and project tours were all designed to help attendees make new connections and see the possibilities available to them.
