2014 SEGD Academic Summit Call for Papers -- EXTENDED!

SEGD is soliciting submissions for the 2014 Academic Summit to be held on Thursday, June 5, in Atlanta. Potential papers should address the educational, institutional, social, and cultural issues that pertain or have relevance to the overarching discipline of experiential graphic design (EGD), which encompasses environmental graphic design, wayfinding and signage design, exhibition design, and other visual communications in the built environment. Situated during the 2014 SEGD Conference, this event will bring together educators, students, researchers, and practitioners from the field of experiential graphic design. Interested authors with papers falling into one of the following topics should submit.

• Innovative teaching methods in design education
• Connecting EGD with interaction design
• Ethical and cultural dimensions in wayfinding innovation
• Interdisciplinary teaching methods & collaborations
• Design research & practice in EGD
• Interrelationship between design education & practice
• EGD history & criticism
• User-centered design in EGD education

Submission Requirements

Submissions are due by Friday, March 14, 2014. They should be provided in the form of extended abstracts. Abstracts must meet submission requirement of a 300-word minimum with a 1000-word maximum. Submissions should contain the following: working title, paper summary, description of methodology used (if appropriate), contribution to the field, visual examples, and implications of theory and practice.

The SEGD Academic Advisory Committee will select from the reviewed submissions and authors will be invited to present their papers at the June 5 Academic Summit during the 2014 SEGD Conference in Atlanta. Selected papers will also be published in the inaugural issue of SEGD’s research journal, Communication + Place, launching Summer 2014. Discounted SEGD Conference registration will be offered to presenters of accepted papers.

Authors of accepted submissions will be notified by March 28, 2014. Full manuscripts with supportive images and diagrams will be due on May 16, 2014. For those selected authors speaking at the Academic Summit, presentations will be due by May 30, 2014.
